Course Information
Course Objectives
In this 4-part course, we will:
- Reflect on personal beliefs about accountability and change.
- Describe foundational elements of accountability processes and pods.
- Analyze examples of dealing with harm.
- Introduce the psychology of behavioral change.
- Provide tools to address common problems that arise in accountability work.
- Practice creating accountability plans.
What should I know before I get started?
- Our Foundations of Consent class is recommended, but not required, as a prerequisite to this course. Understanding the nuances of consent will set you up to deepen your understanding of accountability, which is something we all need to be able to practice when consent is violated, in big or small ways.
- Our goal here isn't to instill one "right" way of thinking or to claim to know how to do a perfect accountability process, but rather, we hope this course gives you a set of tools that you can actually use, as well as the ability to speak more clearly about the ideas and feelings around the topic of accountability that were already growing within you.
- This course is quite long and introduces many concepts and theories on change and accountability. We do not cover all of the complexities of accountability but aim to give you what you need to know in order to begin and deal with challenges while running a process or serving on a pod.
- This series is NOT meant to be taken in one sitting and is best interacted with over the course of several weeks. Please take your time with the material, take breaks, review what you've already learned, engage with the exercises, and genuinely reflect. The more you put into this class, the more you will get out of it.
- We hope that this course will inspire you to talk with others about what you have learned, take what you learn and apply it to your life, make adjustments that make sense, and if you're willing, let us know how it goes. We need your help to make consensual, accountable cultures worldwide, so thank you for taking this step of learning more about accountability.
What if I want a certificate of completion for this course?
- This course asks you to participate in many reflections and activities. In order to receive a certificate of completion, we ask that you complete those reflections and activities to the best of your ability and submit all documents on the Certificate of Completion Submission page at the end. Don't worry about your writing ability - we are just looking for earnest attempts to reflect and engage with the content. We will not accept submissions that were completed by artificial intelligence. We will review your submissions in a timely manner and correspond with your email address on file. If you have any questions, please reach out to [email protected].
