Welcome!

Welcome to Foundations of Consent!

We all need to be able to talk about consent and how to build consent culture. Most of us have learned that 'no means no' and 'yes means yes', but consent goes way beyond that. This course provides an accessible introduction to the foundations of consent, creating a deeper understanding that will allow you to practice consent more in all aspects of your daily life.

What is Consent Academy?

Consent Academy is an educational collective founded in 2016 in Seattle, WA, currently with staff and volunteers all over the world. We believe consent is a part of everyday life, and its practice builds stronger, safer, and more connected communities. Our approach incorporates disciplines of psychology, sociology, public health, psychotherapy, and personal coaching to create a systemic view of how consent impacts everyone, from the bedroom to the boardroom.

Consent Academy is a program of the Pan Eros Foundation, a 501c3 non-profit organization. For more information, visit us at www.consent.academy.

Disclaimers:

“Consent” is a word that is used in many different contexts and for many different purposes. Often, it’s used in a legalistic way, describing what is and is not a crime. We at the Consent Academy are not lawyers or legal professionals, so we can’t teach about consent in terms of the law with any authority. While you are taking this course, please keep in mind that consent may have a legal definition where you live, as well as laws surrounding its practice.

It's also important to note that we are providing only one perspective out of a great many on what consent is and how to practice it. We encourage our students to engage with other perspectives, which is why we have compiled a non-exhaustive, diverse list of resources here: https://www.consent.academy/external-resources.html

Feel free to introduce yourself in the comments! We would love to know why you decided to take the course, what part of the world you're joining from, and/or where you heard about us.
